Progressive failure model for 3D analysis of FRP structures

In our Resources page, you will find a UMAT (user-defined material model) developed in the CORE Group. This UMAT was developed for integration with the ABAQUS FEA software suite, implementing a novel progressive failure model for the 3D simulation of pultruded FRP structures. With this approach, it is possible to model the orthotropic laminates as a homogeneous material. You may find more information in the UMAT page. Taking quick and accurate measurements of air temperature and relative humidity is an essential part of conducting experimental work in our composites lab. To aid us in this task, PCE Instruments has recently provided us with a thermo hygrometer (PCE Instruments - Thermometers) that can accurately measure temperatures and relative humidity between -40 °C and 125 °C. Feature in IIFC Newsletter

PhD graduates and former CORE Group members Tiago Morgado and João Sousa were recently featured in the IIFC Newsletter (2019, No. 2) for their theses "Thermal and Structural Response of Pultruded GFRP Profiles Under Fire Exposure" and "Durability of Pultruded GFRP Profiles and Adhesively Bonded Connections Between GFRP Adherents", respectively. Tiago's thesis investigated the viability of the structural use of pultruded GFRP profiles in the construction industry, namely in buildings, by assessing the thermal and structural responses of pultruded GFRP profiles exposed to fire. His work involved a combination of experimental, numerical and analytical studies, where aspects such as the mechanical behaviour of pultruded GFRP material at elevated temperature and the thermal and mechanical response of pultruded GFRP profiles subjected to different types of fire exposure and comprising different fire…

BE 2018

CORE Group members João Ramôa Correia, João Pedro Firmo, Inês Cruz Rosa, Adriana Azevedo and Wallace Maia presented at the Nacional Symposium of Structural Concrete (BE2018) held at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC) between 7–9 November. This is the most important and prestigious symposium in Portugal about structural concrete applications and is held every two years.
